Recently I’ve been designing a lot of modulation pedals. Pedals that sound pretty. Pedals that add beautiful filigree to your tone.
But I’ve been thinking about the notion of a “Freaking Huge” sounding distortion. Something that you play a note or chord through, and you feel the ground shake. A “Walls of Jericho” sort of sound.
So I began experimenting…now, after several months of design and testing, I have a new creation to share with you:
Leviatha.
A truly leviathan sounding distortion. Massive. Expansive. All devouring. A distortion that comes with the warning “Abandon all hope, ye who enter here”. The distortion pedal Dante used in his jam band when he was clocking some down time whilst writing his “Divine Comedy”.
At it’s core it is a dialable upper octave generator and huge distortion unit…. But I designed the octave generator not so much for the upper octave function but for it’s capacity to create intermodulation frequencies. That note you hear descend down when using a fuzz pedal and you bend one note up against another fixed note.
Not only that, but I designed it to do this in a polyphonically pleasing manner.
Which translates as: It does very, very cool, chaotic things, with chords. Not just single notes.
As with all my designs, it’s very dialable… you can add just a smidge for the slightest hint of girthy grit, or turn up the “X” control for truly cataclysmic tonalities. An incredibly useable drive pedal with otherworldly additional functionality.
