I have always loved modulated delay.

In particular, a deep affinity for tape delays and their inherently magical, asymmetrical modulation.

Modulated delay is often named by guitarists as their most favorite effect.

I wanted to create the most beautiful, musical sounding delay in the world.

One that evokes thoughts of Gilmour, Page, Van Halen, Fripp, Greenwood and the myriad of others who have crafted such beautiful sounds with this most ethereal of effects.

A design journey that started with our Violetta delay, continued with the limited edition Magesteria, and now ends with Cynosium.

Whilst many delay options have appeared since the advent of the tape echo, nothing quite captures the gorgeous frequency shift in repeats and the delicate wobble of the tape over the heads like a tape machine.

Cynosium offers the same exquisite high frequency roll off on the repeats and warm tape like saturation as those iconic mechanical boxes of yesteryear.

The key issue inherent to all tape delays was a limitation on delay time.

Not so with Cynosium.

Offering up to over 2000m/s of delay time, this analog voiced delight delivers the sound and feel of a tape delay but for so much loooooooooooonger!

All the time in the World

Toggling the “Time” switch into the down setting engages the long delay setting (up to over 2000m/s of delay time) for beautiful landscapes of delay. Toggling it up shifts Cynosium into the short delay time setting, for everything from slap back to call and response settings.

Having the ability to toggle between these modes ensures that the “Delay” control is able to offer a full and functional sweep, rather than the incredibly touchy, limited dial-ability that would occur if we only offered the one, long setting.

WOW! (and Flutter)

This toggles between two different modulation modes, channeling the wow and flutter of two different iconic tape delays. Up for the slower, asymmetrical majesty of the Echoplex EP-3, down for the faster, shimmery Watkins Copi-cat glory.

The “Depth” control determines how modulated the delay is by the W/F setting.

From not at all (no modulation) all the way to pitch shifting chaos.

Repeating Myself

The “Regen” dial controls the number of repeats (or sound regeneration). Use this to choose from one single repeat right through to the glorious sound of infinite repeats, building to a colossal, universe swallowing vortex!

Internal Gain

Inside the Cynosium is a small trimpot labelled "GAIN" this allows you to set the Cynosiums output at above, below or at, unity gain.

Redefining Reliability

From the premium components used, to the way in which the pedal is constructed. A pedal that will never need to go near a repair shop. Unsurpassed reliability.

With a lifetime guarantee upon registering your pedal.

How do we achieve that reliability?

-      100,000 Cycle, True Bypass Footswitch

Most stop box footswitches are guaranteed for a lifecycle of between 20,000 and 30,00 cycles. The switch we use in the Cynosium is guaranteed for over 100,000 cycles.

-      Neutrik Sockets

Stand alone, ultra-premium Neutrik jack sockets ensure a lifetime of joyful, trouble-free connection.

-      Hand-wired sockets and footswitch

Whereas most pedals use PCB mounted jacks (and some even mount the footswitch on the same PCB), the Cynosium hand wires the footswitch board, DC sockets and jack sockets.

Whilst being a lot more labor intensive in construction, this method guarantees substantially greater pedal durability and strength than the cheaper, and more prone to failure “all mounted on one PCB” approach

I hate the concept of “planned obsolescence”. The idea that a product is only intended to last a few years in order to ensure future purchases.

Every pedal in the Apothecary series is designed as the antithesis to that notion.

I designed the Apothecary series to last a lifetime. That’s why, when you register your pedal, the electronics and mechanisms are guaranteed for a lifetime of use.

I wanted to design a pedal that you can bequeath to your kids.

So I did.

I personally test and hand sign every Cynosium that leaves our workshop.

Housed in a diecast enclosure featuring gorgeous, machined aluminum knobs, unique to the Apothecary series, inspiring, vivid artwork and topped off with a beautiful LED, color matched to the pedals color scheme.

Made with enormous love in New Zealand.
