Overdrive. Such a universal effect. A million iterations of a handful of designs that have been around for decades ad infinitum….
To create something new in the field of Overdrive is a challenge.
How do you offer what people like but add more?
After several months of experimenting, I have an answer:
GALVINIUM.
What makes Galvinium unique?
Simply put: Headroom.
I designed Galvinium to be able to accept a wide range of voltages. From the standard 9 volt DC supply, to 12 volts DC, 15 volts DC, 18 volts DC…all the way up to 30 volts DC, should you wish to.
The more voltage you use, the broader the headroom the pedal has to operate within.
What does that mean, sound wise?
Operating at a lower voltage – like 9 or 12 volts, Galvinium will be a grittier sounding drive, as you increase the voltage, you’ll find there’s more clarity and bloom to the sound.
To be very clear: Galvinium is a phenomenal sounding overdrive at any voltage.
It’s not a case of it sounding “better” at a higher voltage, it just offers a different sound and response.
Initially, I was going to create a limited run of 79 identical units. But thinking further on it, I’ve decided to make adjustments to each unit, resulting in each one of the Galvinium pedals being slightly different. Not straying too wildly from the fundamental design, just ensuring each pedal has it’s only slightly unique tonal and drive response.
Because the world is homogenous enough as it is. And I like the idea of each of you getting something unique and special, that only you own.
At the heart of the Galvinium is a Burr Brown OPA2134. This op-amp is a huge step up in performance from the more commonly used TL072, JRC4552, NE5532 etc found in most guitar pedals. The OPA2134 is more commonly found in pro level mixing consoles and outboard gear. Revered for its “sweet” sound, the use of this high end op-amp forms Galvinium’s engine.
To further continue the ultra high end theme, I’ve used premium, pro level WIMA capacitors in critical positions in the signal path to ensure superior performance and reliability.
Galvinium has controls for Overdrive, Prescence, Body and Output volume. There is also an internal trimmer that you can use to preset the high end roll off point.
Sounding fantastic with single coils or humbuckers, Galvinium covers everything from a whisper to a roar. From the shadowlands to the bold, blinding light of the sun.
Whether using her to push a valve amp into beautiful, sustained clipping, or generating more of the drive within the unit itself, Galvinium is an incredibly musical, useable, useful and inspiring overdrive pedal.
Each of the 79 units is made by hand by me here in New Zealand using ultra-premium components (in addition to the OPA2134 op-amp and WIMA capacitors). The ultra long-life footswitch, Neutrik hand wired sockets and all through hole construction ensures a level of reliability that means you would never have to utilize its lifetime guarantee (it has a lifetime guarantee for the original purchaser).
Galvinium is available now, but as with all our limited edition pedals, these will sell out, fast.
All Galvinium’s will ship via DHL express international tracked and there will be no charge for freight. We also will pay all required tariffs in advance, so you won’t have to deal with any of that. Life is already too complex without having to navigate the insanity of absurd tariffs.
Don't miss out!
