His sound was unique too – it emphasised the aggression of his riffs.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt took me a few years to get to the bottom of that sound – but finally it was revealed in a guitar magazine – he used a half-cocked wah pedal into an overdriven Marshall amp.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe result = Glorious.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe use of a sweep-able resonant bandpass filter (wah) with overdrive wasn’t limited to Jim Martin and Mark Knopfler – artists like Carlos Santana and Brian May all utilized the concept of pushing certain frequencies whilst cutting others and feeding this “EQ’d” sound into an overdriven amplifier.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIonium can nail these sounds.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe artists I mention all utilized this effect in quite a pronounced way. Which got me thinking…. Used by such icons as George Harrison, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page, the Mk 1.5 is revered for its sounds as much as it’s scarcity.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\" lang=\"EN-US\"\u003eThe Mk1.5 also wears the auspicious crown of \"Father of the Fuzz Face\" - the circuit for the Mk1.5 inspired the Fuzz Face. However the Fuzz Face used different germanium transistors and had a much less tight bottom end. (Check out the short video I made giving a bit of background on the Tonebender mk1.5).\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\" lang=\"EN-US\"\u003eAt the heart of the Tone Bender Mk1.5 are two OC75 transistors. To say these transistors are rare is an understatement. I’ve always endeavoured to offer new features, and Delilah is no different. In addition to the Volume and Fuzz (Level and Attack controls on the TB Mk1.5) Delilah has a control to adjust the gate level and a control to fine tune the voltage the pedal is receiving (allowing you to access the desirable sounds a fuzz achieves when the battery is running down).\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\" lang=\"EN-US\"\u003eWhen these two additional controls are wound back, Delilah operates \u003ci\u003eexactly\u003c\/i\u003e as an original Tone Bender Mk1.5. Through some alchemical farnagling, Delilah generates the required reverse polarity supply for the PNP OC75 transistors.
